Reserve Cup Marbella 2026: Three Days of Spectacle That Reinforced Marbella’s Status as the World Capital of Padel
The 2026 edition followed the tremendous success of last year’s event, when the Reserve Cup held its first international tournament outside the United States in Marbella.
Having featured some of the sport’s biggest names in previous editions, including Juan Lebrón and Agustín Tapia, the 2026 Reserve Cup was headlined by Alejandro Galán and Arturo Coello, who captained the two competing teams and served as the main attractions of a competition designed to offer a different kind of spectacle from traditional tournaments. This year, the Reserve Cup took a significant step forward with the introduction of a women’s division, expanding both the scope and visibility of the event.
Each team consisted of six male players and three female players. Throughout the three-day competition, four matches were played each day—three men’s matches and one women’s match—a format that required team captains to create different pairings and strategically manage player rotations as the tournament progressed.
Team Reserve was led by Alejandro Galán and featured Lucas Bergamini, Leo Augsburger, Mike Yanguas, Gonza Alfonso and Javi Barahona. In the women’s division, the team was represented by Alejandra Salazar, Tamara Icardo and Nuria Rodríguez, all making their debut in the Marbella competition.
Opposing them was Team Sierra Blanca Estates, captained by Arturo Coello. The squad included Fran Guerrero, Javi Leal, Jon Sanz, Coki Nieto and Javi Garrido, forming a highly talented and competitive lineup. The women’s team featured Alejandra Alonso, Lara Arruabarrena and Portugal’s Sofía Araújo, who joined the squad at the last minute as a replacement for Delfi Brea.
The outcome of the Reserve Cup Marbella 2026 remained uncertain until the final day. After two days of competition, neither team had established a decisive advantage, leaving the title to be settled on Saturday in a thrilling finale filled with momentum swings and dramatic moments.
Men’s Competition
In the men’s division, victory ultimately went to Team Sierra Blanca Estates, led by Arturo Coello. The decisive moment came in the tournament’s most anticipated match, which pitted Alejandro Galán and Leo Augsburger against Arturo Coello and Javi Garrido. Garrido had been drafted into the lineup at the last minute to replace Coki Nieto due to physical discomfort. Their victory proved crucial in securing the overall title and lifting the trophy.
Women’s Competition
The biggest innovation of this year’s event was the introduction of an independent women’s competition. The tournament featured six players divided into two teams of three, who competed in one match per day throughout the three-day event. Tamara Icardo and Nuria Rodríguez delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament. On the second day, they secured an important victory over Sofía Araújo and Alejandra Alonso, earning valuable points for their team.
Beyond the sporting results, one of the main highlights of the event was once again the atmosphere surrounding the competition. The stands recorded a notable presence of VIP guests and celebrities. Among the most prominent faces spotted at the Reserve Cup Marbella 2026 was tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who became one of the main attractions in the stands throughout several days of the tournament.
International sporting figures also attended, including former tennis player Patrick Rafter, former footballer Frank de Boer, and Ukrainian coach and former player Serhiy Rebrov, as well as Spanish basketball player Alberto Díaz.
On the national entertainment scene, singer Ana Mena stood out as one of the most notable attendees, further elevating the event’s high-profile guest list. The Spanish artist, one of the country’s most internationally successful voices, also enjoyed the exclusive atmosphere of the tournament in Marbella.
The organisers once again embraced a concept that extended far beyond sport. VIP hospitality areas, gastronomic experiences, exclusive guest zones and brand activations transformed the tournament into a true celebration of the Mediterranean lifestyle. The combination of elite padel, fine dining, music and international networking once again demonstrated why Marbella remains one of the preferred destinations for premium sporting events.
The tournament also enjoyed significant media exposure. International broadcasts and extensive coverage by specialist media outlets helped showcase Marbella to millions of viewers around the world. The event has become a strategic asset in strengthening the city’s position as one of Europe’s leading sports and tourism destinations, while generating a substantial economic impact for hotels, restaurants, retailers and local businesses.
As part of the tournament, Marbella received the award for Best Sports Destination in Europe 2026 from European Best Destinations, achieving a score of 19.6 out of 20 in a ranking based on evaluations by specialised travellers and international experts. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz accepted the award from European Best Destinations CEO Maximilien Lejeune.
